Starting therapy can bring up a mix of hope, nerves, and uncertainty — especially if you’ve tried therapy before or tend to think things through deeply. My goal is to make the process feel clear, collaborative, and supportive from the very beginning.
Sarah Jung CounselingWhat to Expect in Therapy
Our early sessions focus on getting to know you — not just your symptoms, but your story, patterns, stressors, and strengths. We’ll explore:
what’s been feeling hard lately
what you’ve already tried
how anxiety or stress shows up in your mind and body
your relationships, history, and current life context
what you want to feel different
You don’t need to have the “right” words. We go at your pace.
The First Sessions
Anxiety, stress, and emotional overwhelm aren’t just mental — they affect your whole system. In our work, we may gently notice:
physical sensations connected to emotions
signs of stress activation or shutdown
how your body signals safety or overwhelm
This isn’t intense or invasive. It’s simply learning how to listen to your system so change feels more natural and lasting.
We Work With Mind & Body
Therapy with me is:
Conversational – It won’t feel like an interrogation or a checklist.
Collaborative – We make sense of things together.
Thoughtful and attuned – I pay attention to both what you say and how your nervous system seems to be responding.
Practical when needed – Sometimes we slow down and process deeply; other times we focus on tools, clarity, or immediate support.
Some sessions may feel reflective and insight-oriented. Others may focus on calming your nervous system, understanding emotions, or shifting patterns in real time.
How Sessions Feel
With teens, sessions are supportive, respectful, and developmentally appropriate. I help teens make sense of their emotions, stress, identity, and relationships in ways that feel safe and non-judgmental. Parents are included in a thoughtful way that supports the teen’s growth and trust in the process.
For Teens
There’s no pressure to go faster than you’re ready for. Some clients want structured tools right away; others need space to explore. We adjust based on what feels supportive and effective for you.
Therapy isn’t about “fixing” you — it’s about helping your system feel safer, clearer, and more capable of handling life.
You Set the Pace
By the end of our work together, clients often notice:
Less internal tension
More emotional clarity
Fewer spirals of overthinking
Greater self-trust
Feeling more grounded in both mind and body
